What is a Pallet Flow Racking System
The Pallet Flow Racking system (also known as Flow Through or Flow Thru Pallet Racking) operates on the FIFO (First In, First Out) principle and ensures automatic stock rotation allowing stored goods with expiration dates or product batches to be easily controlled.
Pallet Flow Racking also provides highly effective use of space by combining high density storage with high speed access. The system can provide dense storage up to 12 pallets in each bay with rack utilization often at 90 percent.
Pallet Flow Racking requires specially constructed lanes of gravity inclined tracks stacked side by side and on top of each other within a pallet rack framework to form a solid block of storage. The advantage of gravity fed is that pick faces are automatically replenished with consistent loads stored in each lane with the same SKU. Loaded from one end and unloaded at the other, pallets are placed on rollers that slope toward the pick face. A braking system controls pallet speed ensuring pallets safely flow down the lanes. With the pick and replenishment sides separated, speed of throughput combined with automatic stock rotation is the major advantage of this system.
In addition to High Density storage, Pallet Flow Racking Systems can be used as buffer storage in shipping areas, production, goods reception and dispatch.
